Final Action Reports

A multi-part report was prepared and submitted by Commander R. E. Westholm, the ship's Captain, after the USS BUSH was sunk by suicide planes April 6, 1945 while on radar picket duty off Okinawa. Additionally, the ship's Medical Officer also prepared a final report detailing the events of the April 6th from the Medical Department's perspective.

These reports recount the ship's final weeks, combat action the day of her sinking, damage reports, casualties, lessons learned, and future recommendations.

Finally, excerpts from the deck logs of those rescue vessels mentioned in Commander Westholm's report are included. They provide a unique glimpse into the events of April 6th and 7th, and the danger that all men and ships faced along the Okinawa radar picket line.
