SS JOHN BURKE Explodes During heavy enemy attack, the ammunition ship SS JOHN BURKE explodes after being hit by a Japanese suicide plane December 28, 1944. This ship was part of a convoy to resupply allied troops at Mindoro, Philippines.

All 68 hands aboard the BURKE were lost.
