Daniel Tontz, Lt. jg.

On July 26, 1944, Dan Tontz reported aboard the USS BUSH at Pearl Harbor. The BUSH was then Ensign Tontz' first sea duty. He immediately began his new assignment as one of the ship's three Assistant Communications Officers. Dan reported to Lt. Howard West, the ship's overall Communications Officer.

By January 1945, Dan had been involved in plenty of action throughout The Philippines and was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade (Lt. jg.). Dan helped the BUSH support the 1945 invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and fortunately survived her loss on April 6, 1945.
