C. F. Atwood, S2c

Charles Atwood reported aboard BUSH on the date of commissioning, May 10, 1943.

About three months later, on July 18, 1943, Charles was injured in an accident on one of the 40MM guns. The deck log read, "0100-Atwood, C. F., S2c, had left shoulder, chest, neck and hips severely bruised and crushed as a result of being caught between gun #41 and shield; Medical treatment administered by medical officer and he was placed on the binnacle list."

Charles reports the BUSH returned to to California and he was soon transferred to the Naval Hospital at Treasure Island, the first in a series of hospital transfers.
